May 2009

When:

Sat May 23rd 2009

Noon Potluck
Host: Wayne and Carrol Vance 495-7576
Where: Rustic Wilderness

Driving Driections: Mile 80 marker of the Parks Hwy, turn left if northbound on Wilderness Rim then the second left at the runway. I am located in the middle of the field. It's the hanger with the red roof.

The runway is good but crowned so stay in the center. It looks short from the air because of the trees, but you can touch down half way down or more and still have plenty of time to stop. Total length is 2,200 feet. We usually use 122.8 the same as Willow because it’s close.

Fly safe. Wayne

Wayne is also an author, and has a new book called Bore Tide.

We had a good turn out today at the Skwentna Road House. We had a Clipper, 2 Pacers, 2 Cessnas, and Fishin Joe and Vickie came over from Eight Mile on Snow machines. Joe immediately picked a fight with Eddie which Vickie had to break up while the rest of were placing bets.

After burgers we had our annual business meeting where we collected some more annual dues and one corrected E-mail address.
According to the latest policy concerning club officers, I have moved up to president and Mike Jones is moved up to vice president and is scheduling Fly Ins.
We will look to fill the secretary/treasurer position at a later date.

The in air photos are Eddie's Pacer, taken from Bob Ylvisaker's Clipper, the last photo.

January 2009 Meeting

When:

Saturday Jan 24th at Noon

Where: Piccolino's in Wasilla is located in the Shoprite Mall
about half way between AIH and Wendy's.

I got some suggestions for restaurants to meet at and went to town to check them out. I found Piccolino's, in Wasilla, to be suitable and very accommodating. The girls are cute too. They have a nice size room just in side the door and serve Italian and Greek food. The lunch prices were reasonable. Most lunches were under $10. Piccolino's is located in the Shoprite Mall about half way between AIH and Wendy's. Put January 24, 12:00 PM on your calendar.

2009 membership dues are due which is $10. For that $10 you get bragging rights and 1, 2 or if necessary, 3 SWPC Alaska Chapter patches. If any one does not remember what they look like, let me know and I will E-mail you a photo of it. I will mail the patches to any one who mails in their dues. The chapter also has an embroidery design of a Pacer which can be put on a jacket back. This design can also be converted to a Tri-Pacer. This design can be sent by E-mail and taken to an embroidery shop of your choice. I will send this design to any paid up member who wants it. I can send a photo of my jacket as well to any one who wants to see what it looks like or come to Piccolino's and see for your self.

More later,
Rick Brenden

November 2008 Meeting

Saturday November 8th, 11:30 AM

Eddie's brush with fame:

In the summer of 2008, there was a short article in the Anchorage Daily News about an incident that happened at the Willow Airport. A plane took off, and immediately had a major engine problem that was severe enough that the pilot thought that the best thing to to would be to immediately put the plane down on the road instead of trying to do a 180 and land back at the airport.

The plane landed safely. They were able to push the plane safely off of the roadway. No one got hurt, nothing got bent.

They got in touch with Eddie, who was at lunch. According to the quote in the paper, Eddie said that he would head over to the stranded plane "whenever I get done eating."

The emergency happened up in the air. Once the pilot was on the ground and off of the road, the emergency was completely over, so there was no need to get over to the plane, but it just didn't sound right, so Connie and Dean Rampy had this banner created just for Eddie:

Thanks to Warren Enyeart for the photos.

If you want to see something new posted on the web site, ya gotta send something in, please!
